These terms cover this website and the freedisk.space apps for Mac and Windows. They are short because the project is simple: the apps are free, open source and run on your own computer.
The software license
The freedisk.space apps are released under the MIT License. You may use, copy, modify and share them, including commercially, as long as the license notice stays with the software. Where these terms and the MIT License differ about the software, the license wins.
No warranty
The apps are provided as is, without warranty of any kind, as the MIT License says. They are built to be careful: nothing is removed until you confirm it, and removed items go to the Trash or Recycle Bin first so you can put them back. Even so, you are responsible for what you choose to remove, and you should keep backups of anything important.
Your files
Scans, file names and cleanup choices stay on your computer. The privacy policy explains the one optional network exception on Mac (update checks, off by default).
This website
You may read, link to and share this website. Please don’t attempt to disrupt it or misrepresent the project. The guides are general information about Mac and Windows storage; system behaviour changes between versions, so read each step before you run it.
Names and logos
freedisk.space, its logo and the Dusty character identify this project. Forks are welcome under the MIT License, but please give them a different name and logo so people can tell them apart. Other product names mentioned on this site belong to their owners and are used only to describe compatibility or comparisons.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, the authors of freedisk.space are not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of the website or the apps.
Changes
If these terms change, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it. Questions can go to the project’s issue tracker.
